Registered Nursing Admissions

Each year, we welcome about 136 students to our Registered Nursing program — up to 64 for a Fall semester start and up to 72 for a Winter semester start. In addition, about 25 alternate candidates are selected each semester in case any seats become available before the program begins.

This is a full-time program. Part-time enrollment is not available.

This program is designated as high demand and follows WCC’s Competitive Admission Process for determining admissions.

Application Extension Process

If there are not enough applicants to fill all accepted and alternate seats by the initial application deadline, the application may be reopened Wednesday, January 28, 2026. More details can be found under point 8 of the Point Scales for Competitive Admission Programs. Please note, it is uncommon for this program to have a low number of applicants by the initial deadline.

Application Requirements Checklist

All required checklist items must be successfully completed and verifiable before you are eligible to apply to the program.

Students must view the most recent on-demand webinar. The entire video must be watched to the end to satisfy this requirement. It will take approximately 25 minutes to complete. Once finished, your participation will be recorded in your student record.

Note: The webinar was last updated in late November 2025. If you completed the previous version, you’ll need to watch the updated webinar.

Pass the current version of the Assessment Technologies Institute (ATI) Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) by achieving the following minimum scores:

  • Reading = 70%
  • Mathematics = 60%
  • Science = 45%
  • English and Language Usage = 60%

Students are allowed a maximum of three (3) proctored attempts at WCC within five (5) years to take the TEAS and achieve the minimum required scores. Eligible TEAS scores must be achieved no more than five (5) years before the semester leading up to the application deadline. If repeat TEAS test attempts are needed to meet the required scores, the most recently passed scores in each subject will be applied towards admission requirements.

Scores must be taken between the following dates:

  • Fall 2026 Cycle: August 31, 2020 and January 26, 2026
  • Winter 2027 Cycle: January 11, 2021 and Application Deadline (late May or early June 2026)

Visit our TEAS Test Prep site for study tools, resources and upcoming workshops.

Questions concerning TEAS registration at WCC should be directed to the Testing Center.

Register for the TEAS exam

Students must verify their residency status to determine points under our competitive admission process.

For in-district students, you must submit a copy of the front and back of your Driver’s License, State ID Card, or three (3) documents. See WCC's approved documents for verifying residency.

The address on your documents must match the “basic” address we have on file. Your residency status may be updated based on the documentation you provide.

To update your contact information, log in to your MyWCC account. For residency status or name changes, contact the Student Welcome Center.

You must confirm that you reviewed this information in order to access and submit your program application.

If you're enrolled in a Middle College program, you must submit a completed Middle College Status Verification Form filled out by your advisor.

Optional Checklist to Enhance Application Competitiveness

The following items are not required, but may enhance your competitiveness and earn you additional points towards your application.

Submit appropriate documentation to verify your status if currently serving, or submit Form DD-214 if you are a veteran.

Students who were previously given alternate candidate status, but were not accepted during the same admission cycle, will receive additional points. No documentation is needed—this information is already on file.

Points are only awarded to students granted alternate status through WCC’s Competitive Admission Process, not the previous Waitlist Process.

Additional Information

Students with two (2) WCC Nursing (NUR) course failures or withdrawals with a failing status are not eligible to apply to this program.

  • This includes NUR 115 (Pharmacology), which may be taken prior to applying to WCC’s Nursing program.
  • WCC’s NUR course failure policy permits one NUR course failure. Two or more NUR course failures will render the student ineligible to apply or continue in the Nursing program, regardless of when the NUR course was taken.
  • All Nursing (NUR) courses must be completed with a minimum grade of C+/2.3 and all support courses required for the program must be completed with a minimum grade of C/2.0, unless otherwise specified.

If you meet only the minimal application requirements, please be advised that the first semester of the program will require up to 19 credit hours. It is highly recommended that students complete the first semester of support courses prior to starting the program. These courses include BIO 147 (Hospital Microbiology) or BIO 237 (Microbiology) and BIO 212 (Pathophysiology) with minimum grades of C/2.0 and NUR 115 (Pharmacology) with a minimum grade of C+/2.3.

To succeed in the nursing program, you will need to dedicate a significant amount of study time online. Additionally, in the event of a campus closure, even labs and clinicals may be conducted online. To ensure your online experience is successful, you must meet WCC's computer requirements and skills.

  • Smartphones and Chromebooks do not meet these requirements. Please refer to the website when making decisions about purchasing devices.
  • Exams may be proctored using Proctorio, Examplify/ExamSoft®, in-person, or by your faculty. You will be required to take exams online with a webcam and microphone enabled.

Students who are dismissed from the program may not be eligible to reapply to the program.

Entrance Requirements: After Admission & Before Program Start

Upon admission, the following entrance requirements must be successfully completed in order to begin the program. Failure to meet or comply with these requirements will result in forfeiting your status in the program.

Detailed instructions and deadlines will be provided to students who are offered acceptance or alternate status after admission decisions are released.

Students must confirm their seat in the program by the deadline provided in their acceptance or alternate candidate notification email. Further instructions on completing entrance requirements will be sent after the seat confirmation deadline.

All students must attend one of the virtual Orientation Tutorial sessions for important instructions on navigating and completing the Online Orientation modules.

The online orientation will open in Canvas for approximately one week, and all modules must be successfully completed.

Modules will include:

  • Introductions
  • Program Description
  • Key Program Policies
  • Medical Terminology
  • Continuing Eligibility Requirements
  • Computer System Requirements
  • Campus Resources
  • COVID-19 Considerations

An optional, but recommended, virtual Q&A session will be held after the Online Orientation concludes.

Attendance at the in-person program orientation held on WCC's main campus is required.

Students are required to submit health records, undergo drug screening, and complete full criminal background checks paid to an outside vendor selected by the College.

  • Students who fail the drug screen (for drugs prohibited by State of Michigan or Federal Law, including marijuana or controlled substances) will not be eligible to begin the program and will forfeit their status.
  • For more information on background checks and the State of Michigan’s Good Moral Character evaluation for initial licensure, visit LARA’s Preliminary Determination of Character Request.
  • Students should be aware that the Michigan Board of Nursing may deny a license to an applicant who has been convicted of a crime or is addicted to drugs or alcohol.
  • Our clinical partners require proof of immunity to many transmissible diseases, including MMR, Varicella, Hep B, TB, influenza, COVID-19, and others for clinical experiences with our agency partners.

Accepted students are required to register and remain registered in all first-semester courses by the specified deadline, unless they have successfully completed applicable support courses prior to starting the program. Detailed registration instructions will be provided by the department.

First-semester courses include:

  • BIO 212 (Pathophysiology: Alterations in Structure and Function)
  • BIO 147 (Hospital Microbiology) or BIO 237 (Microbiology)
  • NUR 115 (Pharmacology)
  • NUR 108 (Nursing Concepts I) - including lecture, lab, & clinical

See Program & Courses in Catalog

See Course Scheduler & Enroll

Registration for NUR 108 is handled differently from other courses. The Nursing Department assigns your clinical along with the corresponding lecture and lab. You will be notified by the department when registration opens for NUR 108 sections, which typically happens after the online orientation.
